Dust Pollution Systems improve
Conditions and Waste Collection Efficiency
for Systems Furniture

Dust Pollution Systems (DPS) have recently installed a wood waste extraction system at Systems Furniture based in Weston-Super-Mare. The DPS wood waste plant was part of a major investment programme undertaken by Systems Furniture.

Dust Pollution SystemsBefore the DPS installation, System Furniture used separate extraction units located at each machine. This caused a number of problems, in particular the need to collect wood waste from several locations. This was both inefficient and costly to run. The sawdust collected by the various extraction units was transferred to an internal waste skip. There was also a second skip for off-cuts. This meant that in addition to a number of separate extraction units, the skips themselves took up valuable floor space.

Due to local authority restrictions the wood waste system could not be located externally so the new plant had to be designed to be placed within the factory. The DPS solution was to install one of its rotary valve filters with an extraction capacity of 13,000 cfm. This eliminated the need for multiple facilities and in addition a chipper was also installed so that all waste material could be discharged into one skip, saving valuable floor space and removing the need to manually handle the waste produced, which is now catered for by a single skip positioned directly beneath the extract system.

The DPS system has performed excellently since its installation
Don Barber of System Furniture commented, "We machine MFC and we wanted to improve our working environment. The DPS system has performed excellently since its installation, reducing our waste and collection costs as well a eliminating dust from the mill. With their system we will be able to meet our future expansion plans."

The DPS installation has provided System Furniture with a clean working environment and reduced energy consumption. As the factory is located within a housing area, DPS insulated the fan set in a sound enclosure and also acoustically wrapped the duct work run, which serves the wood chipper, to minimise sound pollution.

Careful planning and work procedures ensured that System Furniture lost no production during installation. The existing facilities were removed and the new system connected over a weekend so that the company was fully operational on Monday morning.

The DPS rotary valve filter is designed to discharge all extracted waste materials under negative pressure into skips (as in the case of System Furniture). Total modular construction means that the plant can be easily expanded. DPS rotary filter plant have a number of options including automatic regeneration of filter media and full return air with the flexibility to be located within buildings or externally.
