Space-saving Extraction Unit for World Class Furniture Maker
Restall Brown & Clennell (RBC) are world renowned manufacturers of hand crafted traditional English furniture and use solid mahogany, walnut, oak and other traditional hardwoods, together with some softwood and MDF. When the company needed to replace its obsolete woodwaste extraction system Dust Pollution Systems (DPS) was high on the list of preferred suppliers.
A new efficient dust collection and extraction system was required so that RBC could install new high output equipment, and which also would fully meet its current and long term requirements. Although the improvement of waste extraction for the planned installation of new machinery was vital, RBC also the wanted to make the removal of waste material faster, easier and more efficient. The very tight space available within the site for the exterior system, which had to be sited next to the only entrance, meant that DPS had to design a system that took into account all these criteria and that complied with Health and Safety legislation.
These special circumstances meant that the new extraction plant had to be fitted into a ‘dead space’ between the company's two buildings, to avoid impeding access for deliveries into and transport out of the site. Additionally, local planning authorities would not allow the height of the existing buildings to be exceeded. To overcome both planning restrictions and yet install a system that delivered a high extraction rate, DPS installed a through-flow filter side by side with a rotary filter. This maximised extraction power whilst still using the minimum amount of space.
Produces Excellent Solids Separation
The new DPS system produces excellent solids separation with the through-flow filter providing the main extraction, transferring 20% of the airflow and 100% of the waste to a rotary filter for final separation and dumping. DPS supplied a heavy gauge steel wheeled trolley to hold and manoeuvre skips. The trolley enables a skip to be slid under the rotary filter to remove waste. This design overcomes the restricted factory access, because it enables a full skip to be easily disengaged and quickly moved out of the factory premises, so it can be taken away, without causing disruption. Similarly, empty skips can be quickly moved into the factory site and placed under the rotary filter. Foresight and design engineering allows the system to be enlarged as both the through-flow and rotary filters and are modular.
The dramatically increased extraction provided by the new DPS plant has enabled RBC to install a much-needed CNC five-headed moulder, which will provide increased output and production flexibility. DPS is noted for the reliability, flexibility and high quality build of its woodwaste handling and extraction systems, together with a reputation for its attention to detail in relation to design, performance and installation.
DPS have a complete range of woodwaste extraction and handling solutions that meet the needs of small, medium and large companies; all with an emphasis on easy expansion to meet manufacturing growth. DPS provide built-to-last quality and their design and installation commitment have earned them respect in the supply of large and small waste collection systems alike, with the backing of a service that has made the company a cleaning force within the furniture and joinery market.
