Dust Pollution Systems Clean-up
at Devonshire Pine

Dust Pollution SystemsDevonshire Pine Limited, based in Bideford, is a major manufacturer of pine furniture. The company produces five bedroom and two occasional ranges, principally using 10, 18 and 28mm laminated pine boards. By the end of 1997 Devonshire Pine anticipate that its turnover will exceed £4 million. The company recently moved into a purpose designed state-of-the-art 32,000 ft2 factory at a cost of over £1 million which included the installation of leading edge CNC equipment. The company also wanted to ensure that its production personnel could operate in dust-free conditions to comply with HSE requirements. All its designs have been developed in-house with a particular emphasis harmonisation and a proactive approach to the market in respect to trends and innovation. The quality furniture produced by Devonshire Pine utilises kiln dried Scandinavian redwood using traditional construction methods.

A vital aspect of the new factory is the woodwaste handling system installed by Dust Pollution Systems (DPS). Although three potential suppliers submitted details, the contract was awarded to DPS who in the opinion of Alan Bowes, Devonshire Pine's General Manager, Submitted the most comprehensive installation plans and details, and met our budget." Alan Bowes went on to comment, "Some of the older machinists say that it's the best extraction system that they have ever worked with. DPS has provided a clear working environment and minimised the build-up of dust around machines. We were impressed with the helpfulness of the DPS team and its after sales support."

Flexibility and Design Planning
The DPS chain filter facility at Devonshire Pine has capacity of 26,000 cfm and is able to handle all the woodwaste that is currently produced and also meet the likely increase in production. Flexibility and design planning allows the equipment to be configured to match production requirements. The DPS chain filter has been designed to meet the needs of medium and large companies with an emphasis on easy expansion to meet manufacturing growth; handling large volumes of extracted waste material produced by today's high output machines. These filters have gravity fed separation top inlet sections and large hoppers beneath the filters, giving good separation of air and waste. For minimum wear on the filters, each bank can be cleaned automatically by a regeneration fan either on normal shut-down, or continuously. The system has the option for providing 100% air return. Modular construction means that planned expansion can be undertaken without equipment redundancy and minimum maintenance is an in-built design feature. DPS is in the process of transferring woodwaste to a newly installed silo from where it will be fed to a million BTU burner which will be used to heat the main factory.

The same Dust Pollution System high quality, design and installation commitment are applied to both large to small waste collection systems, backed by service that has made the company one of the most respected in the furniture, joinery and shopfitting industries.
